I have found that the Internet has become a Pandora’s Box for me. This is especially true at 6:00 a.m. in the morning when I sit down and look at the news. Instantly in my news feed I see a number of things that will end humanity in a blink of an eye. I read news about AI being like the Terminator movies, of wars in the Middle East, the price of gas, and now a deadly virus. Many days it feels like the end of days and my anxiety increases.
In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus shares these words with us. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.36 “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man (Matthew 24:35–39, NIV84)
When I read the news at six in the morning I can think I am all alone in the world. Yet, I am reminded in this text that the world has always been one step away from annihilation. In the days of Noah all was destroyed except one family. These events today are not new. The
amazing part is that God’s Word is still with us and will continue to be with us. And if it is with us we are reminded that the living Christ is with us.
We are not alone but are we ready? My prayer lately is for God to keep increasing my faith. Are we ready to walk the road of Daniel into the fire or Stephen into the stoning. Do you believe the living Christ is with you? Can you say with Paul “To live is Christ and to die is gain.”?
We are encouraged to know that God’s Word will continue and if His Word continues then truth in the world will continue. This truth is that God has not left us but is with us. We do not need to look to the stars to see if we are alone. We simply need to read the Bible and know we are not alone. Immanuel has come and he is with us.
