Hey Church family,
Let’s continue our devotional this week in Daniel chapter 9. Today Daniel reminds us that God’s mercy is greater than our failure. Our scripture focus found in Daniel 9:17-19
Daniel 9:17–19
“Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”
Daniel understood something we often forget. Our confidence before God is never based on how good we have been. It rests solely and entirely on how gracious God is. Notice Daniel’s argument. He never says, “God, answer because we deserve it.” instead he prays,
“Answer because You are merciful.”
That changes everything.
Many times, believers struggle in prayer because they feel unworthy. Do you ever feel this way? The truth is none of us are worthy. That’s why grace is so amazing. God welcomes us because of His character, because of His goodness, not ours. Jesus opened the way into God’s presence through His death and resurrection. Today we can approach the throne of grace with confidence because Christ has already secured our acceptance. When shame tells you to stay away from God, remember that mercy invites you to come close. Are you trying to earn God’s approval, or are you resting in His grace? Let’s pray together, Father, thank You that Your mercy is greater than my failures. Help me to stop trusting in my performance and begin resting fully in Your grace through Jesus. In His name we pray, Amen.
