My dearest Advent Family,

I want to start today with an accountability check. If my “math is mathing” (and you can kindly and gently let me know if it’s not because math is NOT my strong suit!), we are about 10 days into the Lenten Season. How are we doing with it? How are you doing in “giving” up/sacrificing the element(s) in your life that distracts, maybe tempts you from being wholly devoted to God?

My encouragement to you comes from Psalm 37:5 (NLT), which says, “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will help you.”

Our Advent friend, Josh Good, reminded us and challenged us at the end of his sermon: are you giving your whole heart to God OR are you finding yourself giving some pieces of it to Him? Jesus displayed to us in the wilderness for 40 days that not just His whole heart but every fiber of His being was wholly given to God the Father despite being faced with temptation from Satan. And we will ultimately rejoice in about 4 weeks in observance of Easter morning that not only did Jesus give His whole heart but He gave His whole life…on the cross…to then defeat death itself, so that we may have everlasting life in Him and through Him.

Is there a piece of your heart today that is not fully committed to God? If you need help offering up the whole thing, your whole life, Jesus can help. But you have to trust Him first.

Heavenly Father,

My spirit is broken for those who may be feeling that because they didn’t commit everything to You that they find themselves feeling like they have walked away from You and now they do not know how You may ever want them back. Or they may find themselves wanting to commit everything to You but do not know how! Your word in Psalms tells us to trust You. Help me today, Lord, to trust You! Help me and anyone else that in everything I’m thinking, seeing and hearing, may it all be committed to You, Oh Lord! Take my whole heart, not just pieces of it today because it’s only in the Mighty Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, I pray for all of these things. Amen.

In His Hands,
