Good morning church family,
We continue our daily devotional in Daniel Chapter 9 as we consider the importance of confession in our lives. Daniel begins to confess not only his sin but for that of his people, and this begins to open the door to renewal. Our scripture focus is a just one verse today, but I encourage you to read Daniel 9:4-19 to get the full context of Daniel’s confession. I want you to see this amazing approach Daniel takes in confession before the Lord
Daniel 9:5
“We have sinned, done wrong, acted wickedly, rebelled, and turned away from your commands and ordinances.”
Daniel had remained faithful throughout his life. Yet when he prayed, he didn’t point to his own righteousness. He identified himself with the sins of God’s people. Notice how many times Daniel says “we.” He doesn’t stand above everyone else. He stands beside them.
Real revival always begins with honest confession. Confession isn’t beating ourselves up. It is agreeing with God about what is true. It is bringing hidden things into the light where His grace can heal them. Our culture encourages us to justify ourselves, in direct contrast the gospel invites us to humble ourselves. When we confess our sins, we discover that God’s mercy is greater than our failures. There is incredible freedom waiting on the other side of honesty. God never rejects a humble heart.
Is there anything you’ve been excusing that God is inviting you to confess? Let us ask the Lord to reveal this to us the way David asked in Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.” Let’s pray together.
Lord, search my heart. Show me where I have wandered from You. Thank You that because of Jesus, confession leads not to condemnation but to forgiveness and restoration. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
