We are an Alleluia People: Christ walks beside us, even when we do not yet see Him.
Day 2: Alleluia in the Ordinary of our Lives
After the Resurrection, life didn’t suddenly become extraordinary. Many of the disciples were confused and unsure of what came next. Many went back to their former ways of life.
On the road to Emmaus, two disciples walked and talked about all that had happened. Jesus Himself came alongside them—but they did not recognize Him.
“Now that very day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus… Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him… When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it… Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him.” (Luke 24:13–16, 30–31)
It wasn’t in a dramatic moment that they recognized Him, but in something simple and familiar, the breaking of bread.
How often does this happen in our lives? We move through ordinary routines of our lives: conversations, meals, household tasks, work responsibilities unaware that Christ is right beside us, quietly present and at work. Living the Alleluia begins here: slowing down, paying attention, and learning to recognize Him in the everyday details of our lives.
Question for Reflection: Where might Jesus be present in my ordinary moments today?
Let’s Pray:
Risen Lord, open my eyes to see You walking beside me. Help me to recognize You in the simple moments of my day, the smile of a neighbor, the anguish of the bereaved, and the uncertainty of a stranger.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Amen.
