Thursday Devotional: Love Never Gives Up or Loses Faith

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” – 1 Cor 13:7

In 1862, Abraham Lincoln faced repeated military failures, public criticism, and deep personal loss during the Civil War. Many urged him to abandon hope, yet he continued believing the nation could be restored. His perseverance was rooted in a conviction that the struggle had a purpose beyond what he could immediately see.

Biblical love carries that same endurance of belief. First Corinthians 13 tells us that love never gives up and never loses faith. This does not mean ignoring reality or pretending problems do not exist. Instead, it means choosing hope even when circumstances make hope difficult.

God’s love toward us is the clearest example. He did not abandon humanity after sin entered the world. Throughout Scripture, we see God pursuing people who repeatedly failed Him. Even when humanity turned away, God continued moving toward redemption, ultimately sending Jesus as proof that His love refuses to quit.

When we love others this way, we refuse to give up on what God can do in their lives. We keep praying when change seems slow. We keep believing restoration is possible even after disappointment. Love sees people not only for who they are today but for who God is shaping them to become.

There will be moments when relationships feel exhausting, or faith feels fragile. In those moments, remember that love is sustained not by human strength but by trust in God’s faithfulness. We can keep believing because God never stops working.

This week, ask God to renew your faith for someone or something you have nearly given up on. Pray again. Encourage again. Believe again. Love holds on because God never lets go of us.
