Hey Advent Family,

I had a situation take place a number of years ago when I was stuck in the snow in the backwoods of the upper Grand Canyon National Park. Unfortunately, someone left the light on in the van and the battery was dead. We were in the middle of nowhere. Two of my buddies went out in the snow to find help. Two miles into their journey they were ready to give up and return back with bad news. Something between both of them triggered a thought to travel a couple of more minutes. At that same time our group was fervently praying for rescue. It was at that moment they saw a car just about to leave the area. They approached and found common ground in my buddy who had a Czechoslovakia background just like the driver. Go figure. Even though the driver was suspicious he obliged to come to our rescue. Our text today is found in Acts about Paul and Timothy traveling together to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

6And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. 7And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. 8So, passing by Mysia, they went down to Troas. 9And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. – Acts 16:6–10 (ESV)

Have you ever considered that you might need to be a rescuer to someone in life? People who rescue others do not take time to check their calendar to see if they have availability to help. Usually they throw the dinner in the trash and run to the rescue.

Are you willing to be led by the Spirit to rescue others? It may require sacrifice to do it. I may mean that it does not make sense but you just need to go. The first step to rescue someone is to be willing. The next step is to pray to God that you are willing to go and ask him to show you the way. Then you must be willing to adjust and move as he directs you. Doing it your way, may not be what is required at the moment. Lastly you need to be aware to always look for where God is moving so you can align yourself with what he is doing. So, who needs you and where do you need to go?
