My dearest Advent Family,

Have you ever given simple instructions to someone but then the person does the opposite of what you instructed them to do? And I have easily been on the other end! I have been given simple instructions only to do the opposite of what I was told what to do…

And why did I do the opposite of what I was told!? If I am being truly honest, a lot of what happens with me is that I was not actively and intentionally listening to the person giving the instructions. Or I did hear it but my selfish side comes out and questions if the instructions given to me are accurate which leads me to want to challenge the instructions and do the opposite. And of course you can insert whatever other excuses there are for why we fail to follow simple instructions.

Today’s passage hit me because I know it’s a simple instruction but I confess I miss the mark on it on multiple occasions. It comes from 2 Peter 1:3 (NLT), “By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.”

My friends, if you are walking with Jesus, you lack absolutely nothing! And if you feel that you are lacking, we were never intended to live this life on our own power anyway!

But take heart, because the guy who wrote this passage has been where you and I have been when we questioned and doubted this truth.

Peter was literally walking alongside Jesus during His three year ministry on this earth and he still denied his Christ three times, just like Jesus said he would…

However, through repentance and grace, Peter becomes what Jesus referred to him as the rock on which He will build His church.

We are fully equipped to live a godly life too just like Peter. But are we prepared when faced with our fleshy desires of this world, sin, to overcome it by living out what the Bible says by desiring the things that Jesus desires because we truly believe and have faith that He came to reconcile us back to Him? I pray for you my brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ that you are more than conquerors through Jesus because He loves you and me to give up His life for you and me and for the sins of the world.

So yes, go and live a godly life daily because He has given you everything that you need.

In His Hands,
