Our last day in Daniel chapter 9, and God saved the best for last! Today we see how Daniel prayed for the salvation of his people, but God answers with the salvation of the world. Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of Daniel’s hope. Our scripture focus today Daniel 9:24.
” Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.”
Daniel’s prayer ends with one of the greatest prophecies in all of Scripture. God promised that one day the Messiah would come. He would deal with humanity’s deepest problem. Not political oppression. Not economic hardship. Not temporary suffering.
Sin.
Everything Daniel longed for finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Everything we long for finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Jesus finished the work of atonement at the cross. To atone means to make amends, fix a mistake, or show you are sorry for a wrong you have done. That is what Jesus did on our behalf, he made up for our lack. At the cross Jesus conquered sin. He defeated death. He now offers everlasting righteousness to everyone who trusts Him. This is the hope that Daniel looked forward to. We on the other hand look back with gratitude to the Cross. But Jesus isn’t finished, which is why we also look ahead. One day Christ will return to complete everything He has begun. Until then, we live with confidence. Our future is secure because our Savior is faithful.
Does knowing that Jesus has already secured your future change the way you face today? Let’s pray together and thank Jesu for all he has done. Jesus, thank You for fulfilling God’s promises. Thank You for Your sacrifice, Your forgiveness, and the hope of Your return. Help me live each day with confidence because my life is secure in You. In your precious name, Amen.
Remember Jesus Loves you and so do I,
